Your Past, Present, and Future

This Life Story CBT worksheet takes inspiration from positive psychology, including elements of narrative and art therapy.

You are asked to write your life story in three parts: the past, present and future.

In positive psychology, life stories are used to help people develop a sense of meaning, which has been found to contribute to fulfillment.

Aim to be creative, along with identifying some of your strengths for each of the sections. For the future section, you are asked to write about your ideal future, and how you hope to achieve it.

The Past

Write the story of your past. Describe any challenges you’ve overcome, and the personal strengths that allowed you to do so.

The Present

Describe your life and who you are now. How do you differ from your past self? What are your strengths now? What challenges are you facing?

The Future

Write about your ideal future. How will your life be different than it is now? How will you be different than you are now?
