Mental Health – The new market emerging in Group Benefits

There is so much noise in the group benefits marketplace and clients are reporting confusion regarding which digital applications best support mental health and questioning the impact of more traditional programs.
As a first step we need to ask the question: “Are you clearly defining the outcomes you are trying to achieve? “ When I work with clients, we begin there. If we are aiming to build a resilient workforce, we need mental health programs and services that offer assessments, navigation and support services. It may be a combination of existing services with new innovation to drive the outcomes you want to achieve.
I recently spoke with a CEO who answered that exact question as follows: “I want to provide real support to employees in the area of mental health. I believe to attract top talent we need to build a better employee experience and demonstrate our commitment to building a mentally healthy workforce.” The client had increased paramedical spend, promoted wellness support programs but utilization was low. The problem was that employees did not have a means to understand when they were at risk or how to access the services.
A focus on earlier identification and resilience-building
Snapclarity offers a new market for employers by being a true supplier of mental health services that provides the risk assessment and support to enable employees to better manage their health. The platform also supports those who are off work and need a timely mental health assessment and therapy intervention.
We are in a new market dynamic where employees are looking to employers who offer proactive, preventative health solutions. Employers of choice have become the organizations that invest in providing employees with preventative tools and inform them about their risks. The ability to build resilience is dependent on clinically-validated risk identification, and preventative tools and support that allows individuals to bounce back from the inevitable curveballs in their work and home lives.
What mental health question do you need answered?
So, start 2020 by asking yourself what question are you trying to answer around mental health. Surround yourself with organizations that are building preventative and intervention services. It is the cost of not offering prevention that is causing rising disability in mental health.
At Snapclarity, we are the pioneers in offering prevention and risk assessments for mental health. We are proud to be making a significant impact on mental health in a meaningful way. This is a new market that promises to have a significant positive impact on disability claims and employee experience.
